Description
Outdoor Learning Teaching Assistant – Alternative ProvisionLocation: Gloucester
Start Date: 1st September
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Pay: £89–£100 per day (inclusive of holiday pay)
The School
This alternative provision supports students who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and trauma. Many of the young people have struggled to engage in mainstream education and benefit from a tailored, therapeutic environment. The school uses a restorative approach to behaviour management, with a strong focus on relationship-building and emotional regulation. Outdoor learning plays a vital role in re-engaging students, promoting resilience, and supporting their personal development.
The Role
We are seeking a compassionate and proactive person to support outdoor and experiential learning sessions. You will work with small groups of students or 1:1 to encourage engagement in practical activities such as forest school, outdoor education, and team-building. The role will also involve driving a minibus to transport students to off-site activities, so a full UK driving licence is essential.
Main Responsibilities
- Support students to engage in outdoor learning activities
- Assist with behaviour regulation using a trauma-informed and restorative approach
- Work 1:1 or with small groups, providing guidance and encouragement
- Promote social skills, emotional well-being, and personal development
- Drive the school minibus to facilitate access to off-site learning opportunities
- Collaborate with teaching staff and external professionals
Essential Criteria
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive a minibus
- Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs or in alternative settings
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a calm and supportive manner
- Resilience, empathy, and the ability to build trust with disengaged learners
- A genuine interest in outdoor education and holistic approaches to learning
Desirable
- Training in Team Teach or other de-escalation methods
- Experience in forest school, youth work, or outdoor learning environments
