Five Education are looking to recruit a Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant to work with young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. The school is a specialist Alternative Provision school set in Dorchester.

The children have SEMH challenges such as depression and social anxiety. Some of them have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). They may also have medical needs relating to special needs and mental health.

The person applying for this role should be able to demonstrate experience of working in a Pupil Referral Unit, or similar setting. You will need to be confident in dealing with challenging behaviour and have a resilient nature. You will need to be able to establish an excellent rapport with hard-to-reach pupils.

The work is 5 days a week, term time only and the hours are 8:30-15:30.

Responsibilities and duties:
· Supporting 1:1 in class and around the school.
· Help the pupils to access the curriculum and possibly tailor the lesson of the activity to their level of ability.
· Make learning fun, enjoyable and accessible.
· Be a support to the pupils when they are struggling, and help them to calm down and remain focussed.

Essential Criteria:
· 2 years worth of references, 1 has to be working with children or vulnerable adults (needs to be recent and this could be paid or volunteer work)
· A relevant DBS/Police checks.
· Able to work between 08.30-15.30, 5 days a week

The pay rate is £13.55 an hour. The day is 7 hours with an unpaid lunch break. Your daily rate of pay would be £88.00* but with a potential to earn more based on level of experience.
