Five Education is looking for compassionate and committed individuals to join a Bristol based special school as SEMH Teaching Assistants. This role is perfect for those who want to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people who face emotional and behavioural challenges. You will be working within a supportive specialist provision that is dedicated to helping pupils develop both academically and emotionally in a safe and nurturing environment.

About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant your responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1 to 1 basis or within small groups
Helping children regulate their emotions behaviour and interactions with others
Building positive trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced trauma or disrupted education
Assisting with classroom learning activities and helping pupils work towards their Education Health and Care Plan targets
Working collaboratively with teachers the SENCo and wider pastoral and therapeutic staff to provide consistent support

What We Are Looking For

Emotional resilience and a calm patient approach
A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people succeed
Confidence when managing challenging behaviour and using de escalation strategies
Strong initiative a commitment to safeguarding and the ability to remain professional at all times
The ability to build rapport while maintaining clear supportive boundaries

Previous experience is not essential. However the following backgrounds are highly beneficial:

Youth work or mentoring
Mental health or social care roles
Behavioural support or SEN settings
Security armed forces or public service roles
Experience supporting vulnerable or at risk individuals

If you are motivated caring and ready to support young people who need stability and encouragement we would love to hear from you.

Essential requirements:

Right to work in the UK – we are unable to offer Sponsorship or accept Skilled Worker visas.

Able to provide two recent references (from the last two years).

Hold a current DBS check registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one*

*Please note, if you do not have a Non-Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we will need to help you process a new one at a cost of £62.70. This will be refunded after 20 days of work with us.

Pay: Five Education operates a PAYE payroll; this is the most transparent way to be paid with no hidden fees such as admin fee or employer's NI. Please note pay rate is for illustration and does include holiday pay.
